What are the different result types available in the Shopping.com API?
There are five basic result types that you might receive through the SDC API depending on what you request. They vary from offers for a particular product to a list of matched categories. The five result types are:
- Type 0 - No result
- The SDC API returns this type of result when it cannot find any matches for the request.
- This is generally returned when the search phrase is gibberish, too specific or non-shopping related.
- For example: a search for "qwertyuiop" doesn't produce any matches.
- Type 1 – Offers for a Single product in a Structured category
- The SDC API returns this type when it is able to find store-offer(s) for exactly one product in exactly one structured category.
- Example: Canon Digital Rebel XT/EOS 350D
- Type 2 – Information on Offers in an Unstructured or Soft-Productized Category
- The SDC API returns this type when it is able to find store-offer(s) from exactly one unstructured or soft-productized category.
- Example: Flowers
- In soft structured categories, when the SDC API finds at least one product with more than one store offer as well as store offers that are not matched to a specific product, it returns combined information on both Multiple Products and store offers.
- Type 3 – Information on Multiple Products in a Structured Category
- The SDC API returns this type when it finds more than one product from exactly one structured category.
- Example: Digital Camera
- Type 5 - A list of categories
- The SDC API returns this type when it finds matches in more than one category (structured and/or unstructured). In this case the search phrase is so broad that further refinement by category is necessary.
- Results for each matching category are the top matches – products or offers, depending on the category type.
- Example: Sony
